Attributed to Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio - “Still Life with Birds”
Art reproduction on canvas in a Baroque gold frame “Zumera”
In this version, the still life attributed to Caravaggio appears as a quiet study of light, physicality and transience. The work, which is now housed in the Galleria Borghese in Rome, is associated with the early Baroque period. The birds lie quietly within the pictorial space, whilst individual sections emerge from the darkness and appear almost tangible thanks to the directed light. With his striking chiaroscuro and the immediate proximity to the subject, Caravaggio had a lasting influence on European painting - an influence that remains palpable in this composition as well.
In the 64 × 39 cm format, the composition remains clear and focused, with a strong emphasis on light and shadow. The reproduction is executed on “Leonardo” canvas; its satin finish subtly captures the dark transitions and fine surface textures, revealing a discreet, uniform weave in the details.
The motif is stretched onto a stretcher frame and mirrored along the sides, continuing onto the edges to create a calm, all-round finish. The picture is framed by the classic ‘Zumera’ decorative frame, a baroque gold frame. The warm gold mount echoes the highlights in the image and lends the motif additional depth without overshadowing the effect of the light-dark contrast. A rear-mounted hook-and-eye fastening discreetly completes the design and allows for easy hanging.
