Painting Frames "Carola"

Carola is a frame constructed from glued wooden elements, with slats 90 mm wide and 48 mm high. The bold profile rises from the picture, initially via a narrow, leaf-adorned inner edge, before transitioning into a wide, slightly curved front face. This gradation draws the eye inwards, whilst the tall outer profile lends the work a tangible presence on the wall. The continuous acanthus relief follows the tradition of Baroque ornamental frames. Such leaf motifs were typically found in portraits, religious depictions and prestigious historical paintings. Dark copper, copper brown and bronze are applied here over a deep, dark patina. Greenish traces have settled in the recesses. In side lighting, therefore, the edges of the leaves and raised lines stand out warmly, whilst the backgrounds remain calm and dark. The deliberately irregular antique finish gives Carola a particularly distinctive character. For the art market, we envisage this frame being used primarily for originals and carefully curated, limited editions. For a broad mass-market range, its strong ornamentation needs to be used more selectively, though it can work well in collections with a historical or botanical focus. We are happy to recommend it for expressive floral paintings or portraits in dark tones. It looks its best when the subject offers sufficient surface area and colour depth.
