Landscape painting
The American painter Sanford Robinson Gifford is famous for his landscape paintings. "Wilderness" takes us into an almost mythically remote landscape, radiating peace and perfect harmony. In contrast to the title, this painting does not show any turbulence, but almost perfect scenic beauty, which evokes reverent wonder in the viewer. Immersed in glistening sunlight plays the high rock mountain in the upper third of the picture the main role. It stands out from a soft blue, almost cloudless sky and is reflected in a lake surrounded by forests. The surface of the water is quite calm, like a mirror it reflects the branches and leaves of the trees standing on the bank. Not insignificant, but very small in the picture, a figure can be seen on the right edge of the picture. There is a lot of sun here, but the figure is already in the shade. Symbolically for every viewer, this person seems to admire the events.
