Meda has the feel of a quiet attic find that we unwrap from its paper and immediately understand: here, the wood is not meant to pretend to be anything it isn’t. The narrow strip is made of solid ramin wood and remains untreated, retaining its light, cream-coloured natural finish. This allows the fine natural grain to shine through unhindered. Minor variations and individual wood characteristics are part of its character. The matt surface absorbs harsh reflections and comes to life only gently in side light. The profile is clean and rectangular in design, 20 mm wide and 20 mm high. A flat cover strip forms a small overhang towards the picture opening; beneath this lies the recessed rebate for the picture and glass. This step casts a delicate shadow line along the motif without simulating an additional decorative border. Such understated wooden profiles are reminiscent of the minimalist framing of the Modernist era, when prints, photography and constructive art were deliberately displayed without ornamental distraction. We particularly recommend Meda for botanical drawings or tranquil, modern landscape photography. It is at its most striking when light areas, natural tones or fine lines in the image need space to breathe. For us, it is the frame for works that make a subtle impression and, for that very reason, invite prolonged contemplation.
