Hildtraud is a moulding that adds colour without overpowering the picture. Its profile is made of solid wood and measures 30 mm in width and 24 mm in height. The substantial, almost rectangular body lends the frame a noticeable sense of depth. On the front is a wide, gently curved outer panel in dark blue and petrol blue. Towards the centre, this is followed by a narrower, sloping visible edge in patinated antique silver, which visually frames the motif and draws the eye to the picture surface. The brushed surface is deliberately left to retain its lively character: depending on the angle of the light, lighter blue streaks, darker areas and silvery reflections come to the fore. This gives Hildtraud its understated vintage look. The two-tone gradation is reminiscent of the more functional gallery frames of the early 20th century. In those frames, wide outer panels and metallic-accented inner edges served to clearly set paintings apart from the wall whilst simultaneously drawing light to the edges of the picture. We particularly recommend Hildtraud for seascapes or atmospheric night scenes. Modern abstract works featuring shades of blue, grey or turquoise also find a beautiful home in this frame. The frame looks at its best when the subject incorporates individual cool colour accents and the silver inner edge is allowed to reflect a little light.
