Freja is one of those frames that lend a room a sense of calm whilst still adding character. The silver is not a cool, smooth silver, but a light antique silver, beneath which a warm rust-red shimmers through at the edges and in the recesses. It is precisely this interplay that gives the colour its depth: from a distance, the frame appears almost creamy white; as you get closer, it comes to life and takes on an almost rosy hue. At 26 mm wide, the profile remains slender yet is intricately detailed. Running towards the wall is a frieze of heart-shaped leaves – a motif drawn from the ornamental language of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which was traditionally used to adorn the edges of furniture and panelling. Beneath this lies a delicate band of overlapping scales that slopes down towards the picture opening. This gradation gently draws the eye inwards. The relief texture catches oblique light and casts delicate shadows that shift as the day progresses. We are happy to recommend ‘Freja’ for floral still lifes, botanical studies or light-coloured watercolours. It looks its best against calm, light-coloured walls, where the patina has time to develop.
