Painting Frames "Benedikta" |

| This 6 cm wide wooden frame draws its charm from the interplay of cool silver and subtly translucent red hues. Its surface features a longitudinal texture and is enlivened by small dark speckles. In side light, the silver appears lighter, whilst warm red and copper tones emerge at the edges and along the curve. As a result, the frame does not appear smooth or mechanical, but pleasantly multi-layered. The profile is made of solid wood and is shaped as a wide cove moulding: it begins narrowly and discreetly at the edge of the picture, dips gently inwards and rises again towards the rounded outer edge. This shape follows the tradition of historic cove-moulded frames. Such profiles were used to guide the eye across a calm shadow zone towards the picture, whilst at the same time creating a clear transition to the wall. We particularly recommend it for atmospheric landscapes or portraits featuring muted shades of red, grey and green. In a traditional Hamburg building, it pairs beautifully with grey-green walls, stucco and walnut wood. In a loft, we like to use it against exposed concrete alongside black metal. It also works beautifully in a country house with lime-washed walls, linen and dark wood. It looks at its best when warm side light brings out its reddish layers. |
