Johann Friedrich Meyer

    1728   -   1789
Landscape painting   •   Wikipedia: Johann Friedrich Meyer

In the vibrant heart of Dresden, at a time when the beauty and splendor of the Baroque era dominated the city, a man destined to make his mark on the art scene was born in 1728. Johann Friedrich Meyer, a master of theater and veduta painting, entered the stage of the art world. His training began in portrait painting, but the influential works of the Italian veduta painter Bernardo Bellotto led him down a different path. Under the guidance of architect and theater painter Giuseppe Bibiena, Meyer began to hone his skills and explore the broad spectrum of the art scene, creating theatrical decorations and bringing the dramatic and opulent settings of the theater to canvas.

In 1751, Meyer answered the call of inspiration and moved to Potsdam to pursue his artistic career. There he worked in the "Königliches Bau-Comptoir" as a painter and gilder, leaving his mark on the royal apartments of Sanssouci and the New Palace. His expertise was so appreciated that in 1771 he was commissioned by the Prussian King Frederick II to create vedute of Potsdam, complemented by carefully crafted staffage figures. This royal project was realized by the talented engraver Andreas Ludwig Kruger, who later married Meyer's daughter Marie Friederike. Johann Friedrich Meyer's vivid and detailed works are a testament to his unparalleled talent and ability to immortalize urban scenes and theatrical moments in stunning fine art prints. As a company dedicated to showcasing and distributing such artistic masterpieces, we are proud to offer the high-quality art prints of Meyer's paintings. Each art print we produce is a tribute to his outstanding skills and artistic legacy, allowing art lovers to take home a part of the extraordinary history of art.
