Anton Hansch

    March 24, 1813   -   December 8, 1876
Landscape painting   •   Wikipedia: Anton Hansch

A silent contribution to the artistic depiction of the alpine panorama was made by the Austrian landscape painter Anton Hansch. Born in Vienna on March 24, 1813, he was part of a long-established Viennese family living in what was then the suburbs of Vienna. His path to painting led him through the prestigious Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of landscape painter Josef Mössmer between 1826 and 1836. Hansch's creative process was often accompanied by trips to the Alpine region, usually in the company of his friend and colleague Friedrich Gauermann. These trips left indelible impressions, which he recorded in his works and which became the source of his extraordinary depictions of the Alps.

Anton Hansch's career reached a significant milestone in 1848 when he became a member of the Vienna Academy, followed by membership in the Künstlerhaus in 1861. Hansch's works present us with idyllic and heroically charged alpine landscapes, which earned him a reputation as Austria's preeminent painter of the Alps and mountains in the second half of the 19th century. His extraordinary landscape paintings, reproduced to the finest detail by our fine art prints, offer a remarkable glimpse of the beauty and majesty of the Alps as seen through Hansch's eyes.

In 1875, Hansch moved to Salzburg, where he died a year later. His devotion to art and contribution to landscape painting were recognized in Vienna-Hietzing, where Hanschweg was named in his honor in 1930. The artistic footprints left by Anton Hansch in landscape painting live on in our high-quality art prints. These not only serve as a tribute to his extraordinary skills, but also allow us to bring a part of the amazing alpine landscapes he so lovingly captured into our own homes.
