Hans Holbein the Younger painted 1533 The Ambassadors (in English: The ambassadors). The two men in the painting are probably two friends who had a political mission together in 1533. The double portrait itself is one of Holbein's most outstanding works, in which the detailed reproduction is impressive. But it is also a picture with many puzzles and hidden meanings. The illustrated instruments represent the seven liberal arts in which the messengers are trained. But they also show the place and the time: London, April 11, 1533, between fifteen and sixteen o'clock. Interestingly, in the year 1533, on April 11, was Good Friday and Jesus died according to the Bible at three o'clock in the afternoon. On the floor there is a huge distorted indefinable spot that might not have caught everyone's attention at first glance. But if you look at it in the right perspective it is a skull - a symbol of death and transience.
