Painting Frames "Therese" |

| What we like about Therese is the contrast between its familiar golden hue and a design that does not rely on lavish ornamentation. The narrow strip of solid wood features a gold-coloured finish with a brushed effect. Fine lines run lengthways along the profile; small dark dots and brownish tones lend the subtle patina its lively rhythm. The front forms a gentle concave curve: from the raised outer edge, it slopes down towards the picture and ends at a delicate inner edge. This hollow guides the eye inwards whilst simultaneously introducing movement into the light. Depending on the viewing angle, light golden streaks alternate with calmer, darker areas. The almost black, similarly recessed reverse side provides a surprisingly striking contrast. The shape is reminiscent of grooved gold frames, such as those used in the 19th century to set paintings apart spatially from their surroundings, though here without the ornamental opulence. We’d happily recommend Therese for a romantic landscape: the gold echoes its warm light, whilst the minimalist form offers a fresh perspective on the familiar motif. We’re equally drawn to a typographic poster in black and white. Here, the appearance of a picture frame meets the clarity of the present day. This contrast comes into its own most beautifully when the motif allows the delicate surface texture a moment of tranquillity. |
