Painting Frames "Hedi" |
| • Serie: Berat • Width: 40mm • Height: 29mm |
| The Hedi is the sort of frame where we like to run our hand lightly over the surface before it goes out for dispatch. 40 millimetres wide, 29 high, made of solid wood – the cross-section reveals a continuous grain, with no added layers. The shape is a flat groove: from the visible edge, the profile curves outwards in a gentle hollow and tapers towards the wall in a narrow curve. Such chamfered mouldings are familiar from the simpler frame-making of the 19th century, where they were intended not to distract the eye with ornamentation, but to draw it into the picture. That is precisely what they do here too: the hollow catches the light and reflects it softly. On the inside is a fine gold edge that stands out against the grey-beige surface – warm against cool, giving the picture a clear boundary. The surface is grooved and has a brushed appearance, interspersed with light gold and champagne tones, complemented by fine dark speckles. Depending on the daylight, it appears sometimes more silvery, sometimes more ochre. We recommend it for atmospheric landscapes and light-coloured watercolours. It looks its best when the painting features calm colours. |
