Painting Frames "Halla" |
| • Serie: Berat • Width: 40mm • Height: 29mm |
| The Halla picture frame is defined by its unusually multi-layered play of colours. Turquoise and mint green lie over cool silver and antique silver, whilst black speckles add subtle, irregular accents in between. The grooved, brushed and patinated surface refracts the light in short strokes. As a result, the silver does not shine as a solid surface, but glimmers through the layers of colour depending on the angle from which it is viewed. We find the light silver inner edge particularly beautiful, as it frames the motif like a narrow line of light. The 40 mm wide and 29 mm high profile is made of solid wood. It rises sharply at the outer edge and slopes down towards the picture opening via a wide, gently recessed cove. This shape draws the eye inwards without harshly framing the picture. It follows the tradition of moulded gallery frames, which were used particularly in the 19th century for landscapes and portraits: the recessed centre served as a bridge between the sculptural outer edge and the picture surface. We are happy to recommend ‘Halla’ for atmospheric coastal landscapes or modern abstract paintings featuring shades of blue, green and grey. It looks its best when the subject incorporates individual cool tones and the vibrant surface is given a little breathing space. |
