The Gerlinde picture frame derives its charm from its multi-layered interplay of colours: on the solid wood, grey-green, rust-red and antique gold combine to form a brushed, patinated and finely speckled surface. Darker and reddish tones linger in the grooves, whilst golden sections catch the light in narrow streaks. The crisp golden inner edge captures this shimmer and gently guides the eye towards the picture. The 40 mm wide and 29 mm high profile rises slightly on the outside and then transitions into a wide, gently inward-sloping moulding. Such mouldings are in the tradition of architecturally designed gallery frames: their purpose was to direct light and the gaze from the room towards the artwork. This lent particular depth to landscapes and portraits, without them being surrounded by rich ornamentation. We ensure that the artwork sits securely in the rear rebate. For delicate prints, we recommend an acid-free backing board, a low-tension mounting method without adhesive on the sheet, and, if glazed, sufficient space between the glass and the picture surface. A two-point hanging system tailored to the format keeps the frame securely in place on the wall. Gerlinde looks at its best with atmospheric landscapes or botanical illustrations featuring muted green and earth tones.
