Painting Frames "Bertha" |

| Bertha is a solid wood frame whose 40 mm wide and 29 mm high profile gives the picture a noticeable yet pleasantly understated setting. From the raised outer edge, the moulding slopes down into a wide, gently rounded cove and tapers off on the inside to a narrow golden edge. This design gradually guides the eye towards the image: the cove collects the light, whilst the inner edge clearly defines the picture’s border without forming a harsh boundary. Such inward-sloping profiles follow in the tradition of historical coving frames, which were used particularly for landscapes and formal portraits. In ‘Bertha’, this form is interpreted in a light and contemporary manner. Light blue and blue-grey tones lie over a pale golden ground. Fine grooves, a brushed texture and the speckled patina allow either the gold or the cool blue to stand out, depending on the angle of the light. The narrow blue outer line gives the profile additional definition. We particularly recommend Bertha for atmospheric coastal landscapes or impressionist floral paintings. The frame looks its best when the artwork contains both cool shades of blue and grey as well as individual warm highlights. In this way, the surface reflects colours from the picture without competing with them. |
