Vintage Photographs

Is photography art, or simply the depiction of an object?

This was and is argued since the beginning of the 15th century, and according to old lore, there were fierce disputes between the painters' guild and the first photographers. Even murder and manslaughter are said to have occurred.
Of course, the original photograph does not have the status of a painting. But those who know the long way from camera release to image development will appreciate old photographs. With their gray values, they enrich spaces, and not infrequently draw visitors into the photograph.

How did photography come about in the first place? Well, it was Leonardo Da Vinci who, in the 15th century, discovered the possibility of painting with light, because that's what photography means, and designed the first known camera. Today it is known as the "camera obscura". Of course, there was no film or the famous glass plates yet. Only through a small hole the outside world was projected onto a wall. What followed was unacceptable to the painters' guild. The obscura developed by Da Vinci brought numerous contemporaries on the plan to enter the art world with this technique.

However, object imaging as we know it today did not begin until the ability to permanently capture an image on film.

But no matter how the technique was used, the origin of photography remains crucial: through a small hole, great and imposing photographs are created.
They animate spaces, they fascinate the observer, they tell stories of times gone by.
