Il Sassoferrato

    August 25, 1609   -   April 8, 1685
Baroque   •   Wikipedia: Il Sassoferrato

Born in 1609 in the picturesque town of Sassoferrato, Giovanni Battista Salvi, better known by the name of his birthplace, would become a renowned painter of the Italian Baroque. His life's journey, which began on August 25, 1609 and ended on April 8, 1685 in the vibrant city of Rome, was marked by intense study and the artistic interpretation of the life and spirituality of his time.

In his early years he was drawn to Rome, the heart of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque, attracted by the enchanting art of Raphael. His artistic aspirations did not let him rest, and a trip to Naples followed, where he studied the important works of Annibale Carracci and its circle, especially Guido Reni. Despite his artistic wanderlust, he was always drawn back to Rome, the city that would eventually become his final resting place.

Sassoferrato specialized in the depiction of the Madonna, a subject he explored in all its diversity and brought to life on canvas. His depictions show Madonnas praying or those with the sleeping child. These sensitive, if gentle interpretations, radiate an intimate and authentic sensibility. Each of his paintings is crafted with care and attention to detail in vibrant colors, making them masterpieces of Baroque art.

Today his works are present not only in the churches and galleries of Italy, but also in many international art collections. Our mission as an art printing company is to reproduce these fascinating works of art as faithfully as possible. In this way, we help to ensure that Sassoferrato's extraordinary art can continue to be admired and appreciated. His unique depictions of the Madonna, brought to life anew in every art print we produce, have left an indelible mark on the history of art. Sassoferrato's passion, skill and artistic vision remain unforgotten to this day.
