The former student of Rubens became famous in England as a court painter. Previously, van Dyck had already been successful in Italy and Flanders. The portraits of Charles I of England and his family continued to dominate English portrait painting for many years to come.
The handsome Sir Anthony van Dyck owed Rubens a lot, because Rubens protected the young painter.
